✦ THE FACE BEHIND EVERYTHING SCOTLAND

Lesley Kennedy

FORMER POLICE OFFICER • TOUR GUIDE • STORY TELLER

"I love Scotland and I love sharing Scotland's stories. Everything Scotland exists because I want to share that passion with anybody and everybody who wants to listen."

"A guest on one of my tours told me I should put something out there for the people who couldn't come to Scotland themselves. That was the moment Everything Scotland became real."

THE STORY BEHIND EVERYTHING SCOTLAND

From Beat Officer to Scotland's Story Teller

I spent 17 years as a police officer in Scotland. It was a career that taught me to listen carefully, to look beyond the surface, and to understand that every person and every place has a story worth hearing. Those instincts, it turns out, are exactly what you need to talk about Scotland.

When I retired from the force, I found myself drawn to something I'd always loved but never had quite enough time for: exploring Scotland. Then I started working as a tour guide and began leading private small-group tours, taking visitors to the places that don't always make the guidebooks, the ruined shielings and hidden sea lochs, the clan graveyards and the whisky villages that smell of peat and promise.

"She tells stories with so much enthusiasm, like she's been waiting her whole life to share them. There is genuine passion there, and it shows"

- SAMUEL ROSENBERG, THE GUEST WHO'S WORDS SPARKED EVERYTHING SCOTLAND

Everything Scotland began, as so many things do, with a single moment of honest encouragement. A guest on one of my tours, someone who had come all the way from America with his family to see Scotland, turned to me as I was enthusiastically telling them one of my favourite stories about Stirling Castle and said: "You should be putting this out there for the people who can't come here themselves."

I'd already been sharing snippets on social media, photos from my tours, bits of history that I thought were interesting or exciting, things that had caught my eye while walking. The blog came next. And now, the podcast is launching on 8th May 2026. A way to bring Scotland to anyone, anywhere in the world, who wants to hear its stories told with genuine love and hard-won local knowledge.

I'm based in Lanarkshire, just outside Glasgow. I'm also a keen (amateur) photographer, and Scotland never stops giving me things worth photographing: the quality of light on a loch in January, the way mist sits in a Highland glen at dawn, the ruined castle that nobody visits because it isn't on any map. Everything Scotland is my attempt to share all of that, the grand history and the quiet corners alike.

            SCOTTISH POLICE FORCE

Nearly two decades as a police officer gave Lesley something no guidebook can teach: the ability to truly listen, to notice what others walk past, and to understand that the real story is almost never the obvious one. Those instincts are at the heart of everything she does now.
